Certification of Italian as a foreign language

APICS Italian Cultural Centre is the official Exam Centre for CILS Exams of Italian as a Foreign Language, offered by the University for Foreigners of Siena.

As an official Exam Centre, it is possible to sit the exams at the APICS Italian Cultural Centre. We offer assistance and preparation for students, both individually and in group classes, online and face to face!

CILS exam can be taken at every level of competence, from Beginners to Advanced. CILS certifications are internationally recognized.

The Foreigners University of Siena is responsible for the exam papers, has set up the proficiency levels in conformity with the European Framework for languages, and lays out the dates of examination (visit www.unistrasi.it).

Which levels do we cover?

The CILS certification system covers all six levels of linguistic competency − as stated in the European framework:
Listening, reading & comprehension, writing, oral skills, grammar and lexicon.

APICS Italian Cultural Centre offers all six levels for the CILS Certification Exams for adults; and three levels for teenagers (aged 13-17 years).

Most Italian universities accept the CILS Certificates (Level B2) as an entrance requirement for prospective students, Erasmus students, and international students.

Level B1 Citizenship is the minimum language proficiency required to apply for Italian citizenship.
